Karina, from the man's perspective, there is no way it's just a cup of coffee. Just a fact that you agree to have it with him will give him a big "yes" to all other possibilities. I might be wrong, of course. Although, last time I invited women I barely knew to share anything, I was in my early 20's. Back then, I only meant 1 thing. Who knows, it might be working differently at older age.

Oleg, perhaps it depends on person. For me cup of coffee means opportunity to get to know person better and see if there is mutual interest. Nothing more.(H)

C'mon guys, all jokes aside, if your doctor wants to invite you for a cup of coffee, it can only mean two things - he wants to examine your body closer or you have 10 days left to live.
I say it's # 1.

Если доктор пригласит меня на кофе я вежливо откажусь ссылаясь на *нехватку времени.......... Если друг-гей приглашает *на кофе хожу с ним по чашечке кофе и поболтать от ом о сем.......(C) :-P

It also may depend on the life style. My professional life is very sheltered. I run my own call-in business and am not exposed to any face-to-face contacts. If someone invites me for a cup of coffee, I will consider it a sign of something big. My wife, however, constantly spends her lunches and after-work drinks with her colleagues, male & female. So, if that doctor works in such environment, where it is normal to step out for a cup of coffee to continue the conversation started in the office, the whole thing might be not worth this discussion.

Ребят,по-моему вас уже занесло куда-то в далёкие дали. Что же это,кофе теперь не с кем выпить? Это что же получается,что если меня,допустим,пригласит на кофе Олег,или Славик,или Мурат,Киевский,Глеб,Паша - что же,сразу задние мысли должны появляться?

Lena G - what you are talking about is different- those are folks you are literally "hanging out" with for a long time.

If he really interested, then I would say he invited u to the dinner, but coffee? maybe only if he cheap?
