By any measure. If there were assurances that all of this country's rich were just as generous with their money as many famous philanthropists, we wouldn't care what tax rates there are, would we?


This is what I don't get, why is it an acceptable line of thinking that the wealthy owe anything more to the society than anyone else? Where is this thinking coming from? Why should they contribute unproportionately more? I believe that in the process of getting rich and even in maintaining wealth the society benefits in many ways already and taxing the rich at a much higher rate that everyone else is unfair and in long-term detrimental to the society.

Think of it this way -- if you go to lunch with someone who makes more money than you do yo always expect them to you? And if you do, don't you think that after a while of this person will have less money than you?
