BRITONS ARE MORE selfish than ever before, reluctant to share even a bar of chocolate, a study showed yesterday.

A lack of time ' and generosity ' has created a 'selfish gene' in today's adults, who want everything they can get, researchers said.

Only 28 per cent of people would lend their car to a friend and only just over a third would lend someone a book or a CD.

While only half would share their lottery winnings with a partner, almost as many would not mind sharing a toothbrush.

The type of selfish acts people find most annoying differs between the sexes, the survey of 1,000 found.
