Ira, that's terrible.. how do teachers survive @ charter school? The poor student of those schools must suffer as well. This is why most of them have to have lottery to just get in.

Well, as far as I remember, charter schools do not perform much better than public statistically, and actually, they should be doing much much better, because they have the right to say " no" to applicants ( second language learners and the underperforming students from other schools), while public schools can't say "no" to anybody. In other words, imagine yourself shopping for fruit where u can " pick and choose" from the basket e best fruit u can get as opposed to just taking the basket w/ everything inside- good or bad. Which one should be better quality?

Ira, that's not true. Charter school can't reject applicants.
And they do perform a little better vs. public schools.

Unlike regular public schools where the local school districts or boards determine which students go to which public schools, parents and students choose a charter school. It's a choice. However, like other public schools, charter schools are required to have open enrollment policies. Essentially this means it has to admit any student who completes an application during the enrollment period. Usually, if a school gets more applications than open seats, it holds a "lottery" to randomly select students for admission

I don't know about your states, in CA charter school teachers make about the same as public.

About hospital pay.. i know Paul Levi (he used to be a CEO of Beth Israel Deaconness hospital here, in Boston). When he was asked to come in as a CEO the hospital was losing $1mln/week, and was in danger of going bankrupt and shutting down within 12-18 months. He turned the place around.. it became profitable and know for very high quality care.
What should his compensation be?

Mike, charter schools do SELECT there applicants... and they do not except anybody who has an IEP( Individual Educational plan) which defines persons learning disabilities, such as ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, disculcular... and many others that are the result of different neurological syndroms.... if you do not have that student population school's scores will go up...

Jeanna, CEOs don't write their own checks. the board does. Don't have any data about 20mil a day before bk (prolly not true). He did not create the world crisis, Bear was the first big victim of it though.
