Oleg, it's not like they misused the expression. No, it absolutely works there as well.

I don't agree, I wish George Carin was alive. He had a great sense for misuse of common phrases. Saying that having intercourse is a bigger bang for the buck than whispering, while both actions produce an imaginary creature is cute but overreaching.

Generally, when I watch something I've downloaded from kinozal.tv, I often turn on the Russian subtitles (or the Russian audio track) for a few seconds, whenever I want to see how they translated this or that phrase Into Russian. More often than not, though, I am disappointed. *-)
Although it's not as bad as translating the movie title incorrectly (or misleadingly). I mean, they actually translated Blue Valentine as Голубой Валентин. (fr)

How "Lost" ever became "Остаться в живых" also still puzzles me. (md)
Especially since the "lost" part ultimately turned out to have a double meaning.

Я вижу другую проблему с использованием данной фразы в таком контексте. Obviously, if you are willing to spend that much ($) on a dinner plate, you are not too concerned with getting sufficient bang for your buck. In other words, I just don't see how it even applies.
