Yes, COBRA is for those who lost their jobs, and I believe it's available for about 18 months or so. Actually, it's probably a lot higher than $600 now, because according to healthreform.gov:"Since 2000 alone, average family premiums have increased by 86 percent in New Jersey". Fortunately, the recently enacted American Recovery and Reinvestment Act "protects health coverage for 7 million Americans who lose their jobs through a 65 percent COBRA subsidy to make coverage affordable."

Out of curiosity, I tried calling several of our local free clinics - you can't seem to just walk right in and expect to get help... as for getting accidental coverage from NJ's department of health(?), I couldn't find any information on it?

Нынешнее положение с мед страховками в Америке очень нехорошее. Потому что исторически они являются в большей степени entitlements, а не продуктами свободного рынка. Это безусловно должно быть изменено. Не только бизнесы, но и индивидуумы должны иметь право покупать страховки и списывать деньги на их покупку с налогов. Тогда появится свободный рынок страховок в отличие от коррумпированного альянса корпорация-страховая компания (все известно, что за большие контракты даются большие взятки). Это приведет к конкуренции за каждого из нас, покупателя, и к снижению цен для всех, сделав страховку доступной и разнообразной. Это то, что нужно делать. Обама-реформ превращает мед страховки в огромный entitiement (spell?). Централизация и отсутствие конкуренции - и лучшей в мире медицины не станет. А страховка будет у всех! Только от чего она будет страховать? И кого? Братья-демократы дружно проголосовали против того, чтоб члены конгресса имели ту же страховку, что они предлагают народу-де жа ву.

Оказывается, в некоторых Штатах (как Массачусетс) были (или есть) медицинское обеспечение для населения от штата. Кому то нравилось, кому то нет...

Значит, во первых, уже есть подобный опыт, и об этом совсем не так много говорят. Во вторых, значит это можно не проводить через Федеральное правительство, что бы заставить нас платить в общую бочку, где деньги будут исчезать. В третьих, я всё равно не понимаю чем занимается правительство штата кроме дорог и водительских прав. На дорогах у нас работает огромное количество мексиканцев, нелегалов...

Значит если дать эту функцию штату, они всё равно накрутят, но может быть где то есть и положительный пример? И это должно быть на много дешевле.
Так что же - Федеральное правительство просто хочет больше власти?!!!

new plan wants to be modeled on lots of the same principals as MA plan. ( Those who read about the plan, not propaganda, knew it:-)). There are many pros/cons in MA plan, too.

- The bill as it is written, will push the small business to either cut the payroll, or stop the insurance for the employees
- Which in turn will push more people to the government sponsored program and eliminate the choices for the consumers
You President straight forward does not tell you what is in the bill.
It is full of provision for the opportunities for the government rationing, as it is establishes the office of Commissioner.
