Founded in 1920, the National Bureau of Economic Research is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan research organization dedicated to promoting a greater understanding of how the economy works. The NBER is committed to undertaking and disseminating unbiased economic research among public policymakers, business professionals, and the academic community.
Over the years the NBER's research agenda has encompassed a wide variety of issues that confront our society. Early research focused on the aggregate economy, examining in detail the business cycle and long-term economic growth. Simon Kuznets' pioneering work on national income accounting, Wesley Mitchell's influential study of the business cycle, and Milton Friedman's research on the demand for money and the determinants of consumer spending were among the early studies done at the NBER. |
Ira, yeah.. some blog vs. reputable research organization.. :)
Btw, my sister is not teaching at a charter school and LOVING it. |
because the grades of all students are "evaluated in one basket" including Special Ed, and ESL... charter school simply "do not offer" those programs... and applicants turned down by this excuse: we do not have this program in our school, we can not meet the needs of your child, and we will not be in compliance with the State...
btw, charter schools have more regulations and accountability vs. public schools.
they hire teachers that are cheap, without experience, those who are right out from college and have no intentions to stay in this profession
i just saw a study on regulatory compliance factors between charter and non-charter.. anyway.. can you explain to me
why are there lotteries to get into charter schools? |
Galina, they hire teachers who are good, and teachers only stay there based on MERIT. Not because you have been there for a long time. Just like any private company.
they are taking this job to pay off their college loan up to $60K and move on after 3 years
huh? my sister is going to be there for a long time.. she has no plans of "moving on".. she is kinda my point of reference..
lotteries are there because they have more students who want to get in vs. space in school
and nobody measure school performance by Scarsdale-Harlem achievement gap.... that is what happened if you combine in one research two parameters that "do not talk to each other"
u can't measure school performance based on student performance? hmm.. what do u measure it on?
we have a conspiracy theory.. now nobody wants to go to charter schools, poor parents are tricked by the lotteries :)
Galina, and on "no ESL in charter schools"
total bullshit.. every charter school has ESL, and some charter schools are based around ESL ***********.boston.com/yourtown/news/somerville/2011/08/in_a_city_of_immigrants_propos.html |
this is a new system to evaluate teacher's performance based on the test scores, 25% and the schools are also rated based on that, but there are other measures as well for example past 2010-2011 school year all schools in NYC "slipped", because the state test was graded differently same old game...
No Mike they do not :) I can not speak for the state of Massachusetts, but in NYC they stay clear from them
Mike, I'm on a mobile, can' t access much now, no the answer might be just this: the lottery is partially white flight from bad neighborhoods ( they cant afford to move, but they CAN apply to a different school and partially by the mere fact that the parents CARE enough to have their kids in a better school. those left behind couldn't care less and/or uneducated and/or ELL and don' t know how to navigate the system. and yes, they don' t provide services for disabled and handicapped kids, some other categories as well which puts them in a better shape. That is not to say , yet again, that they are all bad or worse. My kid goes to a charter and we re aiute happy with it - small, white, with a lot of i volved pRents who pull the muscle and get money for arts, sports, etc. were happy, the teachers there are happy( like your sister) but that does not change the national statistics. I'll throw a vu ch pf links at' ya when I have a chance.
Ira, in fact charter schools have more minorities students on average vs. public schools. It's also in the report.. once u get home read the whole report.

Mike too bad, you have no idea how the research can be boiled and seasoned according to "interest"
good night! I have to go and teach tomorrow morning and lets talk about last night republicans debates :) so long!!!!!

Ira, i am sure by your measure no republican is одаренный и образованный. JD/MBA from Harvard for Romney and career at BCG and Bain.. they are known to hire dummies :)
JD/MBA from Harvard for Romney
Майк, Скажи пожалуста, когда последний раз Республиканский номини *был с North East ? |
А при чем тут это? То же самое что спрашивать "когда последний раз democratic nominee был наполовину негром?" в 2008 году. Не было, так будет.

Mike: Harvard did a lot of good for Romney, just like Yale for Bush. I don't care where he "purchased" his club membership. I judge the intelligence of the prospective president by what he actually says when he can't purchase the editor. Here are some of his priceless quotes. Enjoy. (H)

"Hugo Chavez has tried to steal an inspiring phrase 'Patria o muerte, venceremos.' It does not belong to him. It belongs to a free Cuba." --invoking a phrase that translates to "Fatherland or death, we shall overcome," which Fidel Castro has used to close his speeches for years, and which is associated with Cuban oppression
