Center for medical progress advice to Am. politicians who praise "European healthcare":
Britain's National Health Service Embraces a New Faith in Market Incentives ... expense is driving some policymakers to look with envy towards Europe, and our nationalized health care plans with their rigid cost containment systems. But before they embrace European models, your candidates should take a sober look at what is really happening in European health care. They might be surprised to find |
Hospital kept me in agony for hours
the system you are worshiping would make you fwait for months if not years - because socialism - it is lines - always and everywhere. Could you wait for 6 months? |
Dmitry: * Medicare and Medicaid spend 26.9 cents for every dollar of benefits versus 16.2 cents for private insurance
Government …pays more then the insurance company in benefits What benefits are you talking about, Dmitry? Of course companies pay more than Medicaid and Medicate pay less, not more than private insurers – that is why good doctors trend to prefer private ins. Policies. “Spend 26.9%” means waist for themselves (hurdle), doesn’t it? |
People die every day here because their insurance refuse to cover large expenses for cancer treatments and such
Much more people die because the wasteful and irrational "socialized" health care is not able to create enough capabilities and millions even aren't considered to be treated in time - without even touching the money issue. "Stay in line, you are not first here" |
To cover expenses that it sustained while treating other people for free.
Thus, every solvent patient pays (or his insurance company) for himself and “za togo parnya” (ili parnej). Whatever you perceive it, it is still more humane what Julia’s way. People receive treatment themselves and cover the poor. Julia wants pure expropriation: she wants to charge those BTW, the guy was told one course of Chemotherapy was $140K, minimum 3 courses needed – and no guarantee, of good outcome even after four courses, because the severe health conditions. Thus, each person who do not pay, costs paying patients $500-600K. The guy refused to take CHT and died. His widow decided to keep $40K out of 66, so somebody else would compensate for it … |
Dmitry: there is still at least 70% waste in both the government and commercial sectors. Can we do better?
I’m not sure that 70% is all waste. When my Russian acquaintance scrambled for his life (“socialized medicine” neglected his cancer until it reached the 4-th deadly degree and he rushed to this country – where the market approach allows proper quality). As a foreigner, he had to pay full price – so I could see the structure. He was charged about $66K (analyses, surgeon’s appointments and surgery). Actually, they decided not to cut the tumor (too late), but to contain metastases , hoping for future Chemotherapy. For the appointments, visits and surgery, the world class surgeon from a leading cancer institute was paid 6K, 60K was supposed to go to the hospital. |

"Of course companies pay more than Medicaid and Medicate pay less, not more than private insurers..."
Actually, Medicare in general is one of the best payers for the doctor, if you look at the amount of money paid to the doctor per procedure. Very rarely any isnurance company will pay more then Medicare. Agree with the Medicaid part, they pay very little. “Spend 26.9%” means waist for themselves (hurdle), doesn’t it? You are correct. " Thus government spends 66 percent more than the private sector per dollar of benefits paid." Sorry, if I confused it in the following posts. |
"For the appointments, visits and surgery, the world class surgeon from a leading cancer institute was paid 6K, 60K was supposed to go to the hospital. "
Hospital is considered a health care provider as well as the doctor. Money spent on managing the process between the insurance premium collection (in case of the private sector) or budget allocation (in case of the goverment) and what is spent in the form of a payment to a healthcare provider, is what I call waste. |
Dima, I think that the waste portion is the only thing you will get no argument on around here. We waiste money like there is no tomorrow.
