it is a big deal because of the double standard when it comes to democrats making supposedly "insensitive racial" comments..
when the then republican majority leader, Trent Lott, said something that was perceived to be racial, dems called on him to step down, and the republicans pushed him out..Obama personally back then told republicans to dissociate themselves from Lott..
but it's not the first time dems use the word negro..their own former KKK recruiter, Byrd, said on TV, that there were also white negros (ch) ..whatever that means..
so it appears like dems ARE the party of racists..that's why the trying so hard to conceal it with their policies..kinda like на воре шапка горит..:-)

he said that the country would be better off if the 100 yo senator would have become president when he ran like 40 or 50 yrs ago (it was a private birthday party)..but the senator had a history of being a segregationist when he was a dem, of course (ch) ..but we don't know what policies of Thurman, Trent had in mind that would be better for the country..Thurman was also a fiscal conservative, strong foregn policy, etc..

I think this discussion should go into the intellect topic..(ch) but honestly I think people misspeak all the the time..Gerry Ford said during the debate with Carter that there was no Soviet presence in the Eastern Europe, and it portrayed him as uninformed and "not grasping", when he probably wanted to say that about the Western Europe..like I said intellect is overrated especially when they speak, gotta judge people by the decisions they make..and how right they have turned out with time..

i have sited the studies before - an average dem is actually more racist.. it's explained by the fact that most blacks are hispanics are dems and they are significantly more racists vs the whites.
i am too lazy to look for that study for the 10s time
