When will the race factor end in politics?
1. I don't know how well informed or even remotely interested anyone here is about NY Governor's 3-part scandal. However, the biggest thing that's being discussed is the color of his skin. The black caucus is convening tonight in Harlem to discuss his future. Mr. Patterson himslef being a typical нацкадр (no qualifications, a lawyer who can't pass a BAR exam, a blind person who never bothered to learn Braille, chosen by a "steamroller" for the pale shade of black on his skin) had an audacity to ask for Obama's support for the reason of being a fellow African American.

2. When will it stop? We have had " a first black" in nearly any position imaginable - a President, a Secretary of State (2), an Attorney General, an Oscar Winner in а leading role, an Oscar Winner in a supporting role, a male, a female. NY Mayor, NY Governor, Queens Borough president, Time Warner CEO, American Express CEO, when will the race factor will be vilified as an ugly reverse racism practice? Я доживу?
|

USA is still a very young country. Just over 200 years old. The society is still learning. Look at everything else - Health Care, Nationalization of everything, etc... Unfortunately the "leaders" are copying a lot of stuff from Europe, which went through the same cycles, although at much slower pace, and going to destroy itself again.
We have to stay away from the European model. Find our own way, as we did, when separated from the British Empire... |
( прогрессу с хорошем смысле этого слова, in Martin Luther King's meaning of having a colorblind society).

that is such total bull. who in their right mind would vote for a candidate out of guilt? I certainly wouldn't, on top of that I have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about. blackssupporting a black candidate is no different than people voting along their party lines, or 83% of Catholics voting for JFK in 1960. it's natural for people to support, hire, or befriend"their own kind"- that's called human nature.
|
Lina,
I've never seen so many closet conservatives than here on this forum ;) Makes me want to puke I swear! |
Shurik, We are not closet... we are open..
and why don't you just to that... what you mentioned below, comrade. |
Sorry, Oleg I don't think we are meant to see the day when things like "Black MBA", "Black Engineers Association", Black Entertainment Network, etc are considered as racist as if there was a White Network or White MBA's Organization. And until it is no longer acceptable to use Black as some kind of special defining quality there will not be any end to the race factor in politics.
|
how racist does one have to be notto see thatinserting "white" in the title of most of these associations would berather redundant.
|
there's also a long list of various professional women's organizations, for pretty much the same reasons...
|
Lina, so let me understand, you are saying that when you view any TV Network that is not BET or see any organization that doesn't have the word "black" in its title you see them as inherently strictly WHITE??? So who's the racist here???
|
I assume that many professional organizations are predominantly white - and some are still primarily male.
|
So does it mean that the people who are not members of those organizations are not adequate professionals in any of the fields?
Also, are you saying that the women are inferior, because they cannot make it there as well? I did not take for anti - feminist... oh, well... |
I am actually very much against organizing based on race, nationality, or related things... However, as far as woman's causes go, it is different, I mean, how else would you define , say , an organization that is fighting female genital mutilation in Africa? Or a working group that is making sure women have breaks to pump breast milk at work?
|

human rights movements? |
Mike, I mean specific female -related issues.
It took about 20 years to pass this breastfeeding law. And totally normal sane people who were advocating healthy nutrition were also labeled in the process "feminists", "radical", whatever... |
Julia, the examples you gave might be OK to designated as "women's issues", although I think human rights covers them all pretty well. The organizations i have an issue with are Black Engineers, Women Engineers, etc. I think the only goal this achieves is further segregation and promotes an implications that blacks and women are not good enough to stand their own ground amongst their peers
|
women and minorities still have reason to feel excluded... just because white men don't have "white" associations, doesn't mean they don't exist. I'm not a big fan of these organizations, but I can understand why they might be necessary.
|
What about Congressonall Black Caucus? How is it not racist if their whole caucus is based on race only? Or Hispanic caucus?
|
I really dont know anything about CBS or other minority caucuses, but I would imagine their objective is to advancecertain goals of their own people, very much likemany white congressmentry to advancetheir own goals, without overtly stating it orgiving their causean official title.is it really so uncommon for politicians in Washington to have certain alliances? the only difference is that many of the white congressmen know each other from school, country clubs, their families might go way back...why is itso surprising that minorities might form these organizations to help level the playing field?
. as I said before, I'm not a big fan of thesetype of associations, but I can understand why there's a need for them. |
No, there is no need for them. Blacks like Clarence Thomas and Condoleeza Rice can advance their causes without help from those bullying organizations.
|
minorities still need a lot of help... and while I'm (and others like me) sympathetic to their cause, I doubt I would fight as hardto advanceit as some of the black politicians... Clarence and Condoleezza can't afford toappear biased or too "black".
|
The best help for minorities starts with providing them with good schools. It all starts early in life. Read the article in today's WSJ about the huge success of charter schools in Harlem.
And despite the popularity and success of this program , the teachers unions are fighting it. It's obvious that they don't give a rat's ass about those black kids future. It's all about having power over government money. So, perpetuating poverty and poor grades in minority communities is a tool for teachers unions to demand more money from the government for their own benefit packages. |

*** very well put. agree 100% good example, liberal Hollywood! But how many years did it take for a woman director to win the Oscars? |
btw, i am so sick of black racists!! they are the only once who manage to get away with their racists statements ...
|
Condoleeza Rice in my view could make a perfect next President of USA. Much much smarter and better prepared than ex McCain's running playboy mate!
|
Shurik, why would you call Sarah Palin a Playboy mate?
Have you seen her picture in Playboy's centerfold? Don't you think this kind of comment is disrespectful to all women, republican and democrats? (N) |
Slavik, i ENORMOUSLY respect all playboy mates.. ;-)
i think saying what u said is highly disrespectful to them! |
how is relevant if you respect them or not?? maybe you also respect call girls, does it mean a woman shouldn't get offended if you call her that??
|
Mike, I just think he is giving her more credit then she deserves.
I mean she was a major, and a governor, and even a VP nominee, had a bestseller book, but never a playmate. Trust me, I am a subscriber since 1973 ;-) |
Condoleeza Rice in my view could make a perfect next President of USA.
WRONG!!! Next president should be an Asian female who doesn't speak English and partially handicapped. This way we can cover all/most bases and never to be accused again in not being politically correct. |
are you talking about the playmate who could see Russia from her hometown? At least they didn't have to teach her how to speak the way they did with George Bush JR ;) When he became the president I couldn't understand him but at the end of his term I started to agree with him :0)
|
Mike, i think there is a slight difference between Playmates and Playboy mates ;)
. Condoleeza Rice is Hitler in skirt . Renata - Post Вчера 06:20 - Amen to that! |
