for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,"...what extraordinary efforts? The nomination process takes place on Feb 1 -- 2weeks after Obama was sworn in?!?!! WTF has the whole world gone insane?
|
|
Oleg, I didn't say he deserves it. In fact, I don't think he does. People work their whole lives to get a Nobel prize (at least in physics).
However, this fact has no relation of him being re-elected (or not re-elected) for the second term. I was pointing this fact out. |
wow! it's nice to be a liberal...too bad I didn't realize it earlier...the whole world loves you for accomplishing nothing??...:-) just speending...:-) that's what I need to start doing - spending!!...:-)

Renata, this list is irrelevant. What is relevant, is the list of NPP winners, who are US presidents. With their accomplishments. Do you have that?
|
New Glenn Beck book just wrote itself. |
Carter mg ot one and then we got Iranian revolution, mullahs, hostages in Iran...real peace...:-) then Reagan became president, and hostages the released right away...but Reagan didn't even get the prize for ending THE COLD WAR...tell me there is something wrong with it...
|
|
yeah, sorry...bu tReagan never did...he was a much greater person and president...
|
Carter should have gotten one with Begin and Sadat.. for camp david.
that WAS a big deal. |
Carter is just one of the recent ex-presidents.
1906: Theodore Roosevelt -- for negotiating a treaty that ended a war between Russia and Japan and 1919: Woodrow Wilson -- for founding the League of Nations; There must be others. |
...the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
uhm.....?? is he the only president who works toward a world free of nuclear weapons?? "strenghten diplomacy".... kissing a*** to dictators , terrorists and KGB is not "diplomacy". |
People, you are discussing a PEACE price. Where did you get all that hate from? And for how much? :-)
|
:-) it's not hate...
I didn't know there was a ban...*-)...you mean increased funding?...:-) can I get $1000 now?...:-P
|
Beer Summit with officer Crowley and professor whatshisname |
President George W Bush blocked the use of any government money tofund research on human embryonic stem cell lines created after 9 August2001.
Obama unblocked it.. that involves DOING something. Where do i claim my $1000, i want my money! |
This PEACE prize is more material for SNL. I guess, I'll start watching the show :-D
|
On top of the Beer Summit, which is our internal US issue, President Obama achieved the following things:
- Bowed to the Saudi King - Apologiezed to the world for America's arrogance - Supports and friends with famous leaders like Chavez and Ahmadinejad - Advised his wife to hug a Queen - Advised the World that everybody bears responsibility for the Global Warming Cheers...(D)(D)(D) |
Mike, I love you :-) there was never any ban - I am sure you know it...Bush was the first want to allow any kind of FEDERAL money to go into the research, there hasn't been any ban to fund it with private money...and as everyone knows - the embryonic stem research has NOT given much promising results so far...the adult stem cell has...it was all political stun...
|
as i stated ( in the expanded version ) he banned Federal money to be used in it, for no good reason. Obama unbanned it.
So he did something.. Are you denying that Obama overturned that "ban of federal money to be used on stem cells harvested after 2001"? I want my G. |
How is it an achievement to help spend tax payers' money?(N)
That is all he did so far... he did not create anything. |
if you want you G you either have to travel to Boston or come to Florida...:-) you want check or cash?...money order?...:-)
about the ban - it was put in in 1994 by Clinton (federal government was prohibitted from funding ANY embryo destruction)...Bush was the first one to allow the funding in 2001 for the limited lines, but would not allow it for the new ones...Obama increased the funding for all lines... |
In 1998, privately funded research led to the breakthrough discovery ofHuman Embryonic Stem Cells (hESC). This prompted the ClintonAdministration to re-examine guidelines for federal funding ofembryonic research. In 1999, the president's National BioethicsAdvisory Commission recommended that hESC harvested from embryosdiscarded after in vitro fertility treatments, but not fromembryos created expressly for experimentation, be eligible for federalfunding. Even though embryos are always destroyed in the process ofharvesting hESC, the Clinton Administration decided that it would bepermissible under the Dickey Amendment to fund hESC research as long assuch research did not itself directly cause the destruction of anembryo. Therefore, HHS issued its proposed regulation concerning hESCfunding in 2001. Enactment of the new guidelines was delayed by theincoming George W. Bush administration which decided to reconsider the issue.
|
you mean any research?...not really - Bush's been funding research even more percentage-wise...he just increased a little bit...nothing to the extent deserving even an Oscar...:-)
|
Before we deviate any further. (He definitely did not get it for his reversal of the ban). What kind of a message is it? The gentleman was considered to be a winner only 2 & 1/2 weeks into his presidency. He was also a non-existing senator before that. What was the prize awarded for? Merit? Good intentions? Paraphrasing what Mike wrote in another group, I am currently working on the plan to end all wars, can I be next?
|
And as we know from history (Arafat and Perez got the Nobel Peace Prize), this kind of approach (appeasing terrorists) doesn't really bring any peace...in fact, it was the opposite..(tr) :-(

Apparently,Obamawas awoken early this morning by Robert Gibbs with the news, which surelyled to an awkward moment where Obama said,"Seriously, Gibbs, Iam goingto hurt you, if this is a joke he took it well.. |
My Beer Summit comment was taken as a joke, which mildly offends me.
That event, indeed, was a successful attempt to establish peace between blacks and whites and IMHO deserve a Nobel Prize at least. Joe Biden should be nominated as well for his participation. Oleg, yes, you can be next - for drinking beer with Mike Rabinovich (B) :-D |
Obama was awoken early this morning by Robert Gibbs with the news, which surelyled to an awkward moment
As if Gibbs waking up Obama is not awkward enough |
That event, indeed, was a successful attempt to establish peace betweenblacks and whites and IMHO deserve a Nobel Prize at least.
Do you mean estanlishing peace after igniting unnecessary racial tensions?...*-) |
Here is one more for Obama - promising to close Gitmo
See? He deserves every рубль of his prize |
I saw - i think you observation is funnier...:-)
(md) (fr) |
Bush's been funding research even more percentage-wise...
Svetlana, are you kidding me? Let me put it mildly -- this is incorrect. I am a person who have been doing federally-funded research for the past 15 years and have a first hand experience in that. |
Алексей, it's ok..I know Bush is evil, he did all the terrible things...:-)...but you know what the best part is now?...
The time for trushing Bush is OVER!...now it's Obama's Time!! (fr) (v) |
Pavel, you are on to something. Nobel peace price is usually given to the biggest trashers of America.
|
Please, don't diminish the great achievements of our president. In his first 12 days he also released fundung to pay for abortions in other countries, re-affirmed the army interrogation techniques while expressing the desire to close Gitmo. (That worked out well) AND he hosted a Superbowl party. How cool is that?
Slavik, thanks for stealing my line about Glenn Beck's book |
