Earlier, US federal agents had detained John Demjanjuk at his home in Ohio, carrying him out in a wheelchair.

But a US federal appeals court granted an 11th hour stay of deportation after Mr Demjanjuk's family argued that he was too ill to be transported.

He is accused of being a guard at the Sobibor death camp in World War II.

Mr Demjanjuk denies the charges, claiming that he was captured by the Germans in his native Ukraine during the war and kept as a prisoner of war.

Should there be a cut off age for punishing potential criminals? The pics of Demjanjuk suggest he can barely breath on his own. What satisfaction can come from punishing a man who's two hours from death? If Demjanjuk was a 60 years old or a somewhat healthy 70 years old, I could understand, but 89 and dying? I say leave the man alone. He hasn't even been proven guilty for crissakes. He's just a suspect. What are your thoughts?

Why dont you ask survivors and relatives of those who did not survive those death camps. You have to pay for what u did sooner or later, in this case it's later and thank God that this monster will pay for it.

Он и так прожил 65 лет без наказания, а наказывать за ТАКОЕ необходимо! Так когда же, если не сейчас? И чем он заслужил право на смерть в своей постели?

Карина, такие демянюки и сейчас взрастают где-то, и гуманные ценности им чужды, если кто-то где то, планирующий убийства тысяч невинных людей прочитает в газете, что 89 летнего старика все равно нашли и наказали, то ему это нарушит планчики.
