I can't argue about what's more eco-friendly, but below statement sounds like written by someone not familiar with recycling process and using general terms.
When recycling car you would have to separate different metals, plastic, rubber, etc., first and then burn/melt whatever you can't separate. Somewhat of a standard process when you recycle components with different metals, because different metals melt at different temperatures therefore naturally separating.
Sounds not very eco-friendly if compared to mining.
I seen somewhere on internet a cost of recycling car is $1300. Not sure if its true so don't quote me.
