all supermarkets are different too..
there are many different models they are using..
the "cheap" supermarkets traditionally buy at the cheapest locations, ship to warehouses, from there ship to local stores..
which means average time to consumer is over a week.
places like Wegmans, WholeFoods, TraderJoe have a model where they buy as much locally as possible.
This way many of their goods have 1-2 days time to consumer.
It really has nothing to do with GM on "organic" the quality of fruits and vegies largely depend on the time between picking and consuming
