Towards the end of the initial 27 months, the spouse or civil partner must apply for settled status (indefinite leave to remain). The application must be made on the official Home Office immigration form SET(M) before the 27-month period runs out. The application should be made not more than 28 days before the end of the two-year qualifying period. If made earlier, it is likely to be refused and the fee will not be refunded.
