The Accession countries are the ten states which joined the EU in May 2004. Nationals from these countries are free to come to the UK and seek work here. For nationals of eight of these countries, there are specific restrictions on working in the UK. These eight countries (often known as the A8 countries) are the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia. Workers from these countries are required to register under the Worker Registration Scheme.
