- An overstayer may have married or registered a civil partnership, either before or after her/his leave to remain in the UK expired, without applying for leave to remain as a spouse or civil partner.
- If a personis now the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen or someone with indefinite leave to remain, s/he may be able to regularise her/his stay in the UK as a spouse or civil partner.
