Later that fall, hawks in the national-security establishment were upset that at the Reykjavik summit meeting, Mr. Reagan had talked about the possibility of abolishing nuclear weapons.
And these events were merely prologue: there was considerably more business Mr. Reagan was seeking to conduct with the Soviets — business that he knew would be deeply unpopular with many conservatives. By the spring of 1987, he was well into quiet negotiations for two more summit meetings with the Soviet leader in Washington and Moscow. His administration was moving toward a landmark arms-control agreement with the Soviet Union — a treaty on intermediate-range nuclear forces, which would have to be ratified by the Senate. The idea of such a treaty was beginning to attract considerable opposition in Washington.

encouraged Saudi Arabia to lower the price of oil

loool... this is really funny..
the price of oil collapsed as a direct effect of post 1979 energy crisis measures, which extended the natural cyclical nature of oil pricing. For example, the economical car models designed in a peak of the crisis in 79-82 did not hit production lines until mid 80ies.

saudis cannot control the oil prices even if they wanted too, it's been proven time and time again, but even if they could they would collapse their economy to cater to Regans agenda.

wow, Reagan is a real genius...a determined, principled man, with the clear vision of right and wrong, and that helped him to succeed...a rare breed...
----------------------------------------------
Reagan was a very likable man, although his approval ratings werepretty low while he was in office... and trust me, no one in the country considered him a genius - just a man who happened to be president during the demise of the Soviet Union. Do you honestly believe the same thing would have happened when Kruschev or Brezhnev were in office?

Reagan had pretty high approval ratings, although they varied drastically throughout his presidency.

Did anyone see Jay Leno Last night? He said that Obama got a prize for bringing white cop and black professor together.
Leno is using my material

My Beer Summit comment was taken as a joke, which mildly offends me.
That event, indeed, was a successful attempt to establish peace between blacks and whites and IMHO deserve a Nobel Prize at least.
Joe Biden should be nominated as well for his participation.

Slavik, it's just thatthis is not the first time I'm having this discussion with Svetlana... I like Reagan, but lets not make him into something he's not...and you could have easily googled the article.
