Laura, if you could read Russian you would see some comments from people who never lived here. They agree that there is no “becoming exclusive” concept back there. Being exclusive is assumed from the beginning.

I don't know. That's why I mentioned "russian soul?". But I think it's about the differences in mentalityin eastern/western cultures. Social conduct is different in Asian countries vs. Western. Look an India - they will even date people who their parents tell them to date, and what's interesting they do find love that way.

But how can he really respect you (same as have feelings for you, etc.) after meeting you only once? Do you really-really respect him at that stage?
I don't respect people automatically, and can't respect someone I don't know. What I do is express good will until and unless the person deserves otherwise.
Also, I do not believe it's any different in Russia at this point. Probably wasn't even back when I was still there.

I wouldn't know, a lot changed since I lived there. I would think pretty women rule everywhere, same goes for rich men.

Yulya, I respect people by default. Until I see something that I cannot respect. But it has to be something very nasty for me to not respect a person. I may not agree with their opinions but I would still respect them.

Yulya, you most likely never dated back there. Do you know that a man brings flowers to the first date there? Do you know that these various agencies that “help” American men to find russian brides teach them how to date russian girls? Because there are differences. You just don’t want to admit that.

Traditions, rules, you can call it anything. Flowers do not show respect, but no flowers show no romance/interest there.

Here in the US people bring flowers, too (although I date mostly Russian speakers), but I can't say I care for that all that much (I am pretty much indifferent to flowers, and don't like having to carry them the whole time).

Yes, the word "dating" translated as "vstrechat'sya" means a different thing there. You pretty much "date" (vstrechaesh'sya) until you are engaged. Thereis no exclusive, relationship phases. I guess you can call it a relationship there when people start calling each other g/f b/f
