I actually wanted my kids to know we have constitutional right to own a gun and to form their own opinion on whether it's good for society , and to develop a complex view of pros/cons of this, comparing statistics on crime in different societies with different gun regulations. This, IMHO is a good way of introducing kids to those societal issues, and helps them to develop some independent thinking.

agree..why don't we tell the kids that the DC 30yr long complete weapon ban has increased crime rate in the city by 300 fold, and that most crimes are committed by illegal weapons, not the law-abiding gun owners..

And for that reason, I scared off Shurik. Julia & Aleksey substantiate their points, bring interesting information to discussion. I always look for intelligent, well informed people from the other side. Mostly, I get "Буш - дурак" types.

Actually Ira, Oleg frequently stood up to ultra-right members who spoke mostly in slogans and scared quite a few of them away.
Come to think of it, none of the "Marchiladze era" republicans are here. They are still on site, I see them in other groups, but not here.

"Slavik" went back to his planet. What you see here is his ghost, which, as you know don't cast shadows and don't blink, apparently.

yeah, it is wrong..got carried away there..just got from the top of my head, remember looking up numbers few years back..but the point is gun control bans don't work..it actually makes it easier for the criminals to commit crimes because they know their victims are disarmed and are unable to protect themselves..interestingly that after the DC ban was overturned as unconstitutional in 2007, the crime rate went down slightly, not up as the supporters claimed..

And by the way, Shurik decided to say goodbye himself. Nobody was forcing him out. (D)
