Sept. 25 (Bloomberg) -- Russian Interior Minister Rashid
Nurgaliyev said law enforcement officials and their families
will have to declare their incomes starting next year as the
Kremlin struggles to rein in corruption.
“Every day when I go to work I see what kinds of cars our
employees are driving. You can’t imagine!” Nurgaliyev said in
an interview broadcast on state television today. “Many of them
couldn’t be bought on the salaries our employees earn.”
President Dmitry Medvedev said in February that government
officials and their families would be required to provide more
detailed information about assets and income when they file
their taxes this year as part of a push to combat corruption. On
Sept. 15, he said Russia’s “main problem” is that “corrupt
officials run” the country, RIA Novosti reported.
