When my company is making money I am making money.

Your company or the company that you work for? Because with big corporations thats not exactly how it works.

Lina - which big corporations did you work for where it did not work that way? If company is making money, bonuses are better (or existant). Of course if company is not making money - none exist. Otherwise whats the point?

Company that I work for. Same difference. And yes, it does work the same way for big corporations. We just don't notice it until company starts loosing money. We take our annual merit increases and bonuses for granted until company cancels them

Marina, just because a corporation receives a tax break, doesn't mean that it will be proprtionately reflected in your bonus check - each has its own brand of creative accounting. And you're obviously not averse to receiving government assistance given to you in form of corprate bonuses, its only welfare that you seem to be having a problem with. A rose by any other name...
Of course if company is not making money - none exist.
Also not true - Merrill Lynch gave out billions in bonuses right before they went under. Yet another reason for government regulation.

Лина - спасибо конечно за информацию, но я че-то не поняла.... по пунктам..
1. how am i having problem with welfare? i may have missunderstood..
2. tax breaks are not given to companies to give out bonuses, they are given not to cut jobs.. Makes sense? We were talking about normal situation that has nothing to do with tax breaks, belive it or not, there are WAY to many company who are not expecting tax breakes and run thier business just fine.
3. Merrill Lunch - maybe true, but is it better to set limit salaries to 500K and expect people for that money take such huge companies out of the mess they are in - dont think so. Only medioker performenrs (at that level would agree to that) and than what happens - we get what we py for.
imho!

Why would you call tax break a government assistance???? and compare it to welfare ????
:-O
Tax break is when government let's me (or company) keep more of my own money.
Welfare is when goverment gives me someone else's money

Tax breaks are given for various reasons... and you're benefiting from them, that means you're profiting from government assistance, which is a form of welfare.
Tax break is when government let's me (or company) keep more of my own money.

By taxing you less, it means they have to tax someone else more...

The government also provides free or reduced - price land to big stores such as walmart, additionally many stores are allowed to keep 50% to 100% of all sales tax collected from costumers. How are mom and pop stores supposed to compete with that?
And if your bonus check was issued as result of these government subsidies, then you, just like any welfare recepient, are receiving government assistance - only substantially more.
