here is my question:
Mike mentioned "non for profit" or "not subsidized"
How about existing insurance companies huge profits that they get be limiting services?
This for some reason is Ok just because they are private but god forbid public option regulating services, right?
Where is any logic in this?
Services get paid for by some entity or the other.
What i see practically is payments coming from Plan X instead of Plan Y. We already have public or semipublic options - Child health Plus, for example. It works great both for providers and consumers. They have fewer restrictions on prescribing then Excellus or Aetna ( especially awful insurance company)

i said government entity should be not subsidized.. If they wanna make it for profit - more power to them . I would love us (our government ) to make profit in anything...
Let existing companies compete with them fair and square.. If someone wants to change their plan from private to public insurance - go for it. Let the best service win.

Mike, I know I am risking to sound naive here, but my philosophy of hearth care is based on premise this is one area which should not be based on profit. And I am not saying it should be subsidized, it should be "breaking even". I deal with this reality every day and learned very well how screwed up insurance payment system is.
And I also know how private docs bill and how they play the system. Thank goodness, I am able to avoid doing this since i work for the teaching hospital - and I would never be willing or able to do this by my nature anyways.
So, the point is, those who play insurance companies now, will either continue playing them the same or they will learn how to play another system.

There is no way the government should make a profit on anything. Because - they in power. If they start running businesses for profit they will rule (not govern) all scenarios to maximize it, thus eliminating the fair competition.

On the topic (philosophy) of profit/non profit medical care, you can recall from the soviet era experience, one of the lowest paid categories of government employees - were doctors and nurses. Because they were paid by the government and were considered non produtive entities...

Do you think - this plan will lead to a different government bureaucrasy???

Any doctor who recieves money for their services or salary is THE PART of the healthcare profit...doctors who are against profits in healthcare should probably volunteer for Shriners...

NO. Physician compensation is compensation for services provided. Profit is what you have in your balance sheets after all the expenses, salaries, overheads, etc....(long list) are paid. If any.
Most medical businesses barely break even.
