Лина - i thought you were? in my mind, the only similarity is the concept of "free money." unfortunately our welfare system doesn't encourage people to be accountable. Although, the way some corporations are behaving - not a good sign either.

Exactly Zoya, our government system doesn't encourage anybody to be accountable, including itself. I'm not for big government, but rather for smart and effective government.

Zoya - if you are asking me - thats great that people are getting bonuses, and are encouraged to work harder and smarter.
If you are asking Lina - i would be inclined to say - bonus = welfare.. ; :'(

I think in another topic, i already mentioned that economists do not view it as a science, but rather as an art. Economics, as wells as Finance, can be interpreted in some many different ways. that is why black vs white stand on these issues are silly - we do not know the whole truth and we will never know. All we can do is look at the facts that are available to us, analyze all the info to the best of our abilities, and make our own decisions. None of the above, btw, has anything to do with socialist or capitalist tendencies of the United States.

Ladies, unfortunately i have to run - shabbat is going to start soon. In my opinion, however, government is the necessary evil. we are all too spoiled in this country with our ability to criticize anything we want without any backlash. Perhaps some of you have forgotten how it works outside of this la-la land. Despite the fact that the stimulus package is heavily critiqued by both sides, despite the fact that there are certain shady allocations in it, despite the fact that the concept of the package is against the very core of capitalism, the country will get back to its original course - we will be fine. we just need time for self cleansing, if you will. :-D
