Mike, I agree about MSNBC -- Keith Olbermann makes my blood boil as much as Glenn Beck.
However, my observation was that during Bush administration the number militias did not rise significantly (when MSNBC was advocating for the minority party), while it did during the Obama administration (when Fox is advocating for the minority party). Maybe it's the number of programs on the news channels that are "inflammatory" (there are more on Fox)? I don't know.
And also, Slavik is right -- I don't know how they count "militias", maybe they count Salvation Army as a military organization :-). Yet, there are people who patrol the streets of Detroit on Devils/Angel's Night -- but they don't call themselves militia...

Alexei, I can't stand Keith Olbermann either....
But I do like Rachel Maddow, she is funny!
And overall agree that MSNBC is very poor alternative to FOX.
That's why I mainly listen to NPR:-)

Don't 'em militia boys live in the woods.
Do they now have a cable news channel (Fox) there?

A 13-year-old Yemeni girl who was forced into marriage died five days after her wedding when she suffered a rupture in her sex organs and hemorrhaging, a local rights organization said Thursday.
Ilham Mahdi al Assi died last Friday in a hospital in Yemen's Hajja province, the Shaqaeq Arab Forum for Human Rights said in a statement quoting a medical report.
She was wedded the previous Monday in a traditional arrangement known as a "swap marriage," in which the brother of the bride also married the sister of the groom, it said.
"The child Ilham has died as a martyr due to the abuse of children's lives in Yemen," the non-governmental organization said.
Her death was a "flagrant example" of the results of opposing the ban on child marriage in Yemen, which was leading to "killing child females," it said.

he marriage of young girls is widespread in Yemen, which has a strong tribal structure.
The death of a 12-year-old girl in childbirth in September illustrated the case of the country's "brides of death," many of whom were married off even before puberty.
Controversy heightened in Yemen recently over a law banning child marriage in the impoverished country through setting a minimum age of 17 for women and 18 for men.
Thousands of conservative women demonstrated outside parliament last month, answering a call by Islamist parties opposing the law.
A lesser number of women rallied at the same venue a few days later in support of the law, the implementation of which was blocked pending a request by a group of politicians for a review.

Iran Rape Video Is Indictment of Obama
by Pamela Geller
04/08/2010
Video evidence has come to light of rape in the prisons of the Iranian regime. The Planet Iran website on Tuesday published the graphic and sickening video.
“I could tell that the girls were more afraid of their ‘wedding’ night than of the execution that awaited them in the morning,” a member of the paramilitary Basiji militia said last July about the prison rapes. “And they would always fight back, so we would have to put sleeping pills in their food. By morning the girls would have an empty expression. It seemed like they were ready or wanted to die. I remember hearing them cry and scream after [the rape] was over. I will never forget how this one girl clawed at her own face and neck with her finger nails afterwards. She had deep scratches all over her.”
Just a reminder of the barbaric regime that used to be in Iraq8oI

More from Pamela Geller of Atlas Shrugs:
The sheer brutality of the crackdown on the Iranian people who were marching for freedom, for the principle of one man, one vote, was impossible for us in the West to fathom. We heard the horror stories. We saw unarmed people meeting bullets with sheer will.
But the Iranians could not win this way. Barack Obama made sure of that.
We watched the President of the United States essentially sanction the crushing suppression of people who were yearning to be free by ignoring their plight. We witnessed the President of the United States look the other way while Iranian thugs committed acts of mass rape, torture and public hangings of innocent people. All that and more was done by an Islamic regime that President Obama demands that we respect.

"We call on the Iranian government to stop all violent and unjust actions against its own people," Obama said in a written statement. "The universal rights to assembly and free speech must be respected, and the United States stands with all who seek to exercise those rights."

Maria, what is the point of these posts?
We all know about brutality of many regimes. Do you suggest US should have invaded Iran as well? How about other countries that commit and committed genocide, had and have repressive regimes - and we did nothing? And by "we" I mean "we" as the country, no matter what the administration is or was. Governments get involved when it's in their interest, it is a very sad reality. We've seen it during WWII, Khmer Rouge, during Rwanda genocide, Sudan....we can keep going on and on.....
It is difficult to understand criticism - verbal condemnation is what is done most of the time in those situations, economic sanctions applied ( and they are in place) - what else is expected?

let me answer your question with the words of someone who was the victim of the oppressive regime, risked his life fighting for freedom, Nathan Sharansky, and what it meant to him when someone was not afraid to call it as it is..
