A. I have to laugh. People who take freedom for granted, Ronald Reagan for granted, always ask such questions. Of course! It was the great brilliant moment when we learned that Ronald Reagan had proclaimed the Soviet Union an Evil Empire before the entire world. There was a long list of all the Western leaders who had lined up to condemn the evil Reagan for daring to call the great Soviet Union an evil empire right next to the front-page story about this dangerous, terrible man who wanted to take the world back to the dark days of the Cold War. This was the moment. It was the brightest, most glorious day. Finally a spade had been called a spade. Finally, Orwell's Newspeak was dead. President Reagan had from that moment made it impossible for anyone in the West to continue closing their eyes to the real nature of the Soviet Union.

Sveta, this is all good, but do you deny that Reagan was driven by self-interest ( or, by the US interest)? The only reason US acted is because they felt threatened by the USSR at that point of history. Nobody helped my grandfather when he vanished in Gulag.
What do we suggest USA did to Iran in response to, admittedly, despicable acts committed there? Constructively?

I already said.. to call it as it would be a great start.. to call the Iranian regime for what they are.. but you have to believe it first.. I believe our prez doesn't.. he doesn't believe US is an exceptional country, beacon of freedom, like Reagan did.. maybe Reagan didn't save a lot of дедушки vanished in Gulag before, but he surely prevented many more to vanish, not only in Russia, but other countries as well.. of course, it's American interest or self-interest to have as little as oppressive regimes as possible.. democratic countries are usually our allies..

Maria, what is the point of these posts?
I was just reading the Atlas Srugs blog run by a very courageous woman, Pamela Geller, who exposes brutality to women by radical regimes on a daily basis. ( She must have bodyguards for protection 24/7). So, I was overwhelmed and wanted to share with this group. You won't find stuff like this in MSM.
( I'm still shaking from the mental images of those poor women being raped in prisons, like they used to do regularly).

This is from a few months ago when Iranians had their strongest and biggest protests against their tyrannical regime. Obama did not side with the protesters. :-|
All he needed to do is offer them their moral support and clarity that America is still on the side of all freedom fighters.
But he did not. He does not believe in freedom the way Reagan did.
Only much later , in response to a lot of critisim here at home, did he say what Lina posted below. But it was too late...
