are you saying 800k/year in total across the country? then it's nothing compared to the cost of the bill..

1.6million bankruptcies 50% ( 800k) of them from medical bills.

just to avoid going in circles...I am all for creative solutions to help people obtain affordable coverage who want it through free market..
I think 40% currently uninsured are qualified for Medicaid today (since their income under 20K)...the question is why they don't apply for it?? it may be due their illegal status or they don't actually want it or need it..
it's American to help people in need because we are a compassionate society, and that's why we don't let people die on the street..however, the current bill will hurt the economy and may leave many people unemployed, which is even worse than being uninsured..just like the government's minimal wage requirement has left many teens (especially blacks - 50% current unemployment) jobless..
there is huge room to cut federal government spendings and offer tax credits to the uninsured instead of increasing taxes especially now..

btw, I think that not giving me a chance to opt out of social securityand Medicare and let me save for my own retirement is alsoun-American..when social security was first installed it was only 1%,now it's 15...why?? and it will happen to all government "good"intentions..

People don't bother with insurance because they are generally stupid ( for the lack of the better word ), especially those making lower wages.. but eligible people are not a problem.. when they get admitted hospitals qualify them for medicaid..
A bigger problem are people who make lets say 60k/year and fail to buy even catastrophic coverage. Another problem area is people who get denied insurance for pre-existing conditions.
The bill addresses both of these issues.

or their resources might exceed $2,000 which is not enough topurchase health insurance, yet makes one ineligible for medicaid. additionally, NJ doesn't offer medicaid to single adults.

I don't really care if they want health coverage or not... I think it is more un-American for me to have to pay for their poor financial choices (i.e. failure to buy health insurance).

The coverage i have right now ( and have had for hmm.. 12 yearr and never used ) greatly exceeds any minimum government standards they would possibly put into place
