Hotels are not an issue. Main attraction is off hotels - on Mnt. Hagen and remote villages. That where a problems starting to appear...

Albert, I have heard scary stories about Barselona Airport's Glatt Kosher Lounge too. They once ran out of pickles. The PNG site seems to offer very accomodating tours. Hard to imagine that there is something worth seeing, well known to the resident of LA, and not being offered at the reasonable price. If you know about it, then someone must have come back alive? Dig deeper, there is an All-Inclusive on Mnt Hagen, I suppose.

prices for the tour in PNG coming to about 7-8K per person not including air. That doesn't include security...

I would, in all honesty. And the price tag, although being very very hefty, I would pay. (Who needs college funds anyway?) However I am not anywhere close to be retired, and taking so much time off from my business would be too painful of an adventure. Also, the tribal meeting that you are trying to attend might be a tourist trap. Would be silly to look back, 20 years from now, and think that your family had spend $15 G's that could be invested, into something that was similar to Cinco de Mayo in Tijuana 20 years ago. But, seriously, I do wish you a very interesting and fulfilling trip.

Oleg. In relaity price will be much higher. I would expect total of about $20-25 per couple (if you add flights to AU, to Cairns, to PNG and Barrier Reef with cruise).
About money, we live one life, so we need it in the way, (Ostorvski copyright) so we would't be sorry in the old age...
