i do believe that this reform has degraded to the point of total craziness, due to asshole politicians from both sides inability to negotiate and political posturing.
However, points that you sited are not all correct. The wellpoint study for one was done WITH public option for example. As nobody really understands what's really is and what's not in the latest bill any kind of analysis is pointless.
Forcing everyone to buy insurance should in fact lower premiums on average for example. Setting up insurance exchanges should lower premiums for small businesses.
Bits and pieces of the legislation are very workable, it's the totality that came out very Frankenstainish

Ok, I looked at some portions of the bill that was woted on last night... oh, my, oh, my... it's the biggest piece of kiss-ass one can imagine... Some parts are Ok - preexisting conditions waivers for children actually should go into an effect immediately, not in 2014.
There is a HUGE provision for primary care, very much needed. Very big provision for small rural hospitals, also really needed. Abortions piece if awful, of course... There are some good options for medical graduates going into primary care, now they don't have to go to Indian reservations to pay their loans.
The rest.... I am not sure. This 8% is so arbitrary. And insurers will use it, for sure. I mean , take a family with a $100K income - they should pay $8K per year if self -insured? It's steep...

So, if that family can't afford 8K for their private plan, they will become uninsured. And we are back to the square one. Nothing in this monstrous bill will contain the rising cost of healthcare.
And eventually, those who can't afford the 8 -15,000 a year private plans, will have to go to the "public option". Even if there is no such term in this bill, the mechanism for it will be there. And it will end up as a single payer. That's the ultimate goal of the progressives.
Also , if there are incentives for med school grads to go to prime care , who will pay for it? Do the extra money come at the expense of other specialties?

8k for an insurance for a family sounds pretty normal, i think it's an average price right now for a decent insurance.

Gera, well.. what is the other option? For a small business right now insurance costs 50% more then for a large business.. at some point i priced catastrophic insurance for myself.. ( 33yo, who has never been to a doctor with 0 pre-existing and no history of anything ) and that was $250/month (3k/year).
This is why i think 8k/year for a family is not a lot.
And going without insurance is NOT an option.

They regulate too much. They bring in the amendments and vote for themwithout debate. They rush it and shove it down our throats.
The people are against it.
They do not have a free market for the product.
Who knows what else is implied in the 2000+ pages.
