Svetlana, i am saying MOST MDs did not go into it for the money, i am just using this as an example.. medicine is really not the field where you get the best return on your time investment; and the best professionals will always be well compensated to matter what field they work in.

but unlike other fields, everyone is relatively well compensated in the medical field, even if they're not the best. and I'm not just talking about doctors.

Mike, look at the shortage of docs - US compared to Canada and Europe..and Canada has only 30 mil people..(ch)
they don't go for the money, but if you don't compensate properly, or government regulates it...see the results..

MDs make just as much as any other professional with the same training requirement..

Starting salary of an English professor is about $40K
Starting salary of a chemistry/physics professor is about $60-70K
Starting salary of the Computer Science prof is about $80-90K
[it is of course different from region to region]
There are 100-300 candidates for each such job, both in English, chem/phy or CS. Is it only market that regulates salary?

Mike, I am shocked you don't see it...I hope you heard of the residency-matching program..if not, you can ask around ;-)
if it was that simple - supply and demand - everyone would go to medical school to become a plastic surgeon or such..eventhough most of the people don't go there for money (ch) , their supply doesn't grand them those highly lucrative specialties..in those very sought-after programs, the decisive factor is not just supply or demand, or even market price, it's something intangible that even IVY league schools can't guarantee (ch) ..the price of admission to the field of medicine is not just demand and supply, not just years of training, not just cost of education, it's something what it takes to be a doctor or lack of thereof..

not everything and everyone follows the rule of microeco 101...
I know it's hard for you to be impartial about docs (ch) , think of comedians, they are either funny or not...
