is anyone against taking census??..why does the government need to know people's race?? to let them feel victims or for pandering..

collecting statistical information about the population of a country as a whole ( aside from just the headcount ) has an enormous number of uses.
on race, here is from FAQ
Asked since 1790. Race is key to implementing many federal laws and is needed to monitor compliance with the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. State governments use the data to determine congressional, state and local voting districts. Race data are also used to assess fairness of employment practices, to monitor racial disparities in characteristics such as health and education and to plan and obtain funds for public services.

Sveta, if you were reading results of, say, German census, wouldn't it be curious to find out how many Jews or Turkish immigrants are on welfare there compared to German -born.
I want to know similar stuff here...
and politicians use all this stuff for districting, btw

I still don't see the reason why the gov't wants to know the race in the post slavery/civil-rights America..how is it important what race the people are who are on welfare, and what can the government do specifically to help people of that race as opposed to just helping to people on welfare?? give me one example where it would be crucial for the government to know the race of the electorate..

without using too much imagination - medical studies..
looking at the occurrences of specific deceases within different population group and projecting the risk/costs whatever at the population as a whole..
