So that we are clear on this point. I am against any type of welfare, be it corporate welfare or any other kind. To the extend that one company has an anfair competative advantage over another company - this is wrong. The best way to do that is not regulate those companies more, but to apply/enforce equal regulations evenly and fairly - this is actually is not the same thing.
Liberals have a tendency to treat every case of corporate melfeasance as a way to come up with more restrictive regulations. Enron is a case in point. Congress had overreacted and passed Sorbane/Oxley (SOX) act that drove dozens of american companies overseas. Instead of enforcing existing regulaions. For example, banking and securities industries in the United States are some of the most regulated industroes in the free world.

Lina, Stem Cell research is an important issue for me. And it has to be very thoroughly thought through before we engage in it. There are ethical ramifications. However, there are issues more important to me right now. For example government debt. You know those trillion deficits are borrowed from somewhere. And the will be time to pay it off. who is going to pay it off? Us, our kids? Whom are we borrowing the money from to give to "poor old bank and auto industry?" And what if we cant pay the debt, who will bail us, I mean US?
