Who would you support if you found out that the US is taking actions against Israel? In light of some recent events, I believe this question to be both timely and pertinent. Furthermore, why should someone be automatically deemed unpatriotic simply for disagreeing (peacefully) with US actions against their country of origin, while opposing the actions of the current (or any) President or protesting against any other laws or policies is considered an exercise of your First Amendment rights?

I believe that blindly supporting the US (or any country for that matter) regardless of its actions, is not patriotic, but rather just plain stupid. It is no different than a parent who sides with his child no matter what he does... in the end, we all lose.

All critics, that is coming from Americans is onlyindication of their patriotism. America has future because of these who care tomake it better. Here is my home, I am an active community member (many-manythings are not right in our community), participate in petitions, helping poor…
One latest example: Last year I’ve been fighting with thecounty, until got them to change the law. It took almost a year, but it worked!

Americans (and they know that I tend to criticize Americaalot) say that I have an American spirit and they are proud, that I choseAmerica and became an American.
Americans accepted me as one of them, I am a part of a greatculture, great country, of course, I am proud.

I don't see why naturalized citizens feel they should have to be more patriotic than those who just happened to be born here?

Lina, I think reading what everyone wrote it is pretty obvious that don't feel that we should be more patriotic, we just are.

I think it comes ( at least for me) from two sources:
1) gratitude to the country that welcomes you as one of their own and allows you to become a full citizen with full rights
2) the sheer effort of becoming a citizen -- applications, tests, oaths, etc. makes us appreciate what we got a lot more than those that were simply born into it

нас на работе люди из Франции и Италии получили с удовольствием американское гражданство.

Возможно, но честно, я не видела людей из развитых стран, которые стремились бы получить американское гражданство - оно им с практической точки зрения не интересно и патетических стенаний типа "я горжусь, что я американка" ни от кого из них не слышала - ну приехали и живут себе.. чем тут гордиться? Америка - великая страна.. а Англия или Германия - не великая? Мало ли куда жизнь занесет. У многих за плечами ни один переезд.. И интегрироваться они не очень стремятся, а держатся особняком - устраивают свои посиделки и вечеринки, закупаются в своих магазинах, отмечают свои праздники. А вот кто из третьих стран - так круче них нет американцев.. ну еще и наши с ними. В общем, есть ааагромная разница между теми, кто уезжал от чего-то (гонений и тд) и теми, кто уезжал к чему-то (работа-карьера).
