Fox News promotes the ideas of the very right of the Republican party, so IMHO, it does not serve the ideals of the whole party.
Personally, I don't like the style. I like when news channel reports the news, not interpretation of the news.

I don't really like watching Fox News. It states the obvious with too much vigor. Although it's the only news outlet reporting from the other side, it does it with arrogance similar to CNN's. Unfortunately, considering the fact that we're being fed the same mush by EVERY other news source but Fox, Fox is the only place to turn to. But it's sad.

they only have to gain from flaming.
is your job as a viewer to strip away bullshit and spin and figure out what the real news are.

To answer a title question: I don't think it has any role in the life of republican party. It might seem to be a рупор for them, but let's not forget that majority of the Americans are very independent thinking people.

Как может cable news channel быть обсолютно независимым, не обсуждать события, и выдавать только факты? Тогда это будет 11 o'clock news или бегущая строка.
Что то вроде этого:
7:00АМ Обама receives Nobel Prize; 7:15AM $1.4 mil is missing from stimulus package; Today - 64 degrees mostly cloudy

That statement reminds me of posts I frequently read in the russian groups: Russia is always right, it's on the side of truth and justice, and so on and so forth...As I said earlier, you can take the girl out of the USSR...

славик, а кто говорит каким он должен быть? он должен быть таким что бы maximize the shareholders value ( this sounds so 80ies ).
Это уже наша работа, как телезрителей to apply critical thinking to crap that's been thrown at us by TV, radio, newspapers, etc.
